The Surgical Science story starts with a medical science project initiated in 1995 by Anders Hyltander, who at the time worked as a senior GI surgeon at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden. Together with the three young, skilled, and brilliant software engineers he tested the hypothesis that real-time simulators could be developed and used to train novice surgeons before they enter the operating room.
